Order Description

This week you read about some important issues pertaining to the use of technology and social media and how this intersects with ethical issues in human service professions. For this week’s task, do the following:

First, revisit the Codes of Ethics you explored for your earlier “Exploring Careers and Ethical Guidelines” challenge assignment. Return to the links to the guidelines and review carefully to see if there are any guidelines specifically pertaining to (a) the use of technology (e.g. storing client files, etc) and (b) the use of social media or other similar technology (e.g. facebook, twitter, etc).

For each, copy/paste any passages that address guidelines about technology. Then, write a brief summary/reflection addressing why you believe the given guidelines are important given the area of work and also addressing any areas you think may be missing or could be strengthened. For instance, not all organizations have guidelines pertaining to social media yet, if this is the case for your chosen set of guidelines, suggest why it would be important and also make suggestions about how a guideline might read.

Finally, after you have completed the steps above, think about your own use of social media (or, your “social media footprint” ). How do you use social media/the internet? What platforms do you use? Are there any changes or specific strategies/steps you may consider taking to make sure you are appropriate balancing your professional image/responsibilities online? Explain.

When you are evaluating best practices for your health care facility, you may have to think outside of the box. Throughout the course, you have considered options for your local community, rural communities, urban communities, etc. What do you do, however, if you have to make decisions on the national level? You should evaluate the best practices of other countries. For example, Dr. Victor. G. Rodwin (2003) researched the health care systems of France to discover best practices for the United States. He said:

The French health system combines universal coverage with a public–private mix of hospital and ambulatory care and a higher volume of service provision than in the United States. Although the system is far from perfect, its indicators of health status and consumer satisfaction are high; its expenditures, as a share of gross domestic product, are far lower than in the United States; and patients have an extraordinary degree of choice among providers.

Health care administrators direct and coordinate medical services in facilities such as hospitals, public health agencies, and managed care organizations (U.S. Department of Labor, 2015). In order to accomplish this directive, health care administrators need to be current on mandates, health initiatives, and population health programs. This requires the exploration of a variety of resources on health initiatives and public health programs.

You have been provided with a small sample of resources that can help inform a health care administrator. Review the Learning Resources (BELOW) to determine the defined groups and outcomes on the international, federal, and state level. For this Discussion, you are not limited to what has been provided.
